23/5/2010 Hinckley Carnival - 6th June 2010 Our
club has got a float on the Hinckley Carnival. we'd really like to get
a good representation of our club with kids of all ages on the float
particuarly as this is our centenary year. The
float will be set up in Brunel Road carpark and we understand this is
where we will be starting the parade from, although we will update this
notice should this change. The carnival will begin at 12pm, so we'd
like all the kids to get their for 11:40 to give us time to organise
what's going on! Please contact Judy on poolside or scribe an email to this address: hinckley.sc@googlemail.com if you'd like to come. We do need some adult support, roughly 1 adult to 5 youngsters is what we'd like to end up with, so please volunteer!

Tuesday Night Main Pool Session Changes beginning Tuesday May 4th
The
club has in principal agreed to make changes to our Tuesday Night
Session. The club feels that the present times don't offer as
productive a session for those at Diddy category and above as we
desire. The club is proposing a change to utilise our teachers, pool
time and resources in a better way.
So the current 3 sessions
(7:00-7:45, 7:45-8:30 & 8:30-9:15) are to be amalgamated into 2
sessions filling the 7:00-9:00 slot, with the masters following on at
9:00. The younger swimmers in the teaching lanes will be unaffected and
will still have a 45 minute session finishing at 7:45. The Senior
swimmers will then start their session in those lanes at 7:45 finishing
at 9:00. The diddy swimmers will be split between the two sessions and
will be in an hour each, the 2nd group will follow on from the first at
8:00. See the below preview if that made no sense.

<<<DOWNLOAD Tuesday Session Preview
This is the latest version (April 28) of the lane allocation for the new Tuesday session.
The
idea is to get it out in the open so everybody concerned can have a
look at it and be sure that this is going to on the whole satisfy
everybody. A small number of swimmers will be finishing later than they
were, however its very difficult to make it perfect for everybody.
The
teachers have discussed the possibilty of making the sessions far more
skills based, i.e. less lengths, more drill work and practices.
If you have any feedback please get in touch via the email at the top of the page.

Well done Team!
We'd
just like to offer our congratulations to Sue Phillips, Anita Stanley
and Claire Shires who all achieved their ASA Judge 1 Qualification. Top
job team!
The Bear Trophy is Back
The
Bear trophy returns for the first installment of 2010 this Sunday 11th
April. All main pool swimmers need to be on poolside for 5:30. There will be a short warm up then the event will get under way.
For
those of you new to the club/bear trophy there are 4 timed events on
each stroke, on either 1 or 2 lengths (age dependant) . The times are
sorted by age and awarded 10 points for first then 9-8-7-6-5-4-3-2-1
for the rest of the top 10 in each age category. The points get
totalled up over the year and the person with the most points wins
their age group. There is also an award for the person who can reduce
their PB times by the most over the year, so first place really isn't everything here.
The order the events are scheduled changes from month to month, this time we are starting with backstroke. There is also an optional 100m swim at the end which for this month is also backstroke.

Easy Login Forum!
We have a third and hopefully now "sorted" forum added today. It allows you to login using an existing account like Facebook, Google, Myspace, twitter etc.
Its safe and secure and will hopefull allow everybody to communicate much more easily.
May Day Bank Holiday Sessions
This week we're going to be open at JCC on Saturday morning.
However we'll be giving our swimmers the Sunday and Monday nights off. So enjoy your bank holidays!
We'll be back on Tuesday with the new revised main pool sessions (see below article).
Hornets takes the Championship! A
great night for the team who bagged promotion at the first attempt, by
taking the Leicester league championship by winning the final at
Hinckley.
Everyone put in a stunning effort, the whole team swam with a huge
amount of determination which helped defeat some very strong teams who
brought some really high calibre competition to Hinckley that hadn't
been there at earlier rounds. Check the race times here. Good luck to the team at the reliant league tomorrow!
County Championships Weekend 3 We
had another pretty stellar weekend at Braunstone with a boat load of
PB's, there were some really notable surprising performances which is
great news. Massive
congratulations to our medallists this weekend particuarly our latest
County Champion Georgia Petch who destroyed the field on her 50m
Breastroke. So all in all a really good county champs for the team and there is plenty of ways we can improve and do even better next year. Check here for the official results with our team highlighted. Gold Georgia Petch, 50m Breaststroke, Female, Eleven Years Silver Sian Sippitt, 800m Freestyle, Female, Fourteen Years Callum Stretton, 800m Freestyle, Male, All Ages, Twelve Years Georgia Petch, 50m Backstroke, Female, Eleven Years Ryan Gordon, 50m Butterfly, Male, All Ages,Ten Years Bronze Freestyle Relay team, Male, 9/10 Yrs (4x50m) Georgia Petch, 100m Ind. Water Polo World Domination begins here...
The
Water Polo team this weekend (14 March) won the Nottinghamshire Youth
Tournament by winning all five of their games, including beating both
of the infamous Grantham teams.
We are the only youth team in
Leicestershire this means the Notts youth tournament is the nearest
water polo tournaments and consists of monthly tournaments running
January to June each year.
Our top scorers each scored five
goals across the tournament out of the 18 goals Hinckley scored in
their five games. The team is made up of ten 13, 14 and 15 year olds,
some of which have only been playing water polo since the beginning of
this year.
We also have one player attending the regional
training centre who hopes to go on to the national academy in the
summer and we hope to be able to get other player there in future years.
We
are always on the lookout for new players and would be especially keen
to hear from any 12 and 13 year old swimmers - come along on one of our
training nights to see us in action or contact us through the club
website, check the schedule for training times.
Our
next tournament on the 24th April will be our first home match as we
have only just secured arrangements for goals so we are hoping to
repeat today’s performance and win all our games again.
8/3/2010
Well our county championships continue with some aplomb. In 6 galas the team has achieved 116 Pb's from 157 starts. Race position is not the most important thing, the county championships has the best swimmers in the county so beating them all is always going to be tough. If you can smash your PB to pieces we cannot ask for much more than that!
The champs move to Braunstone a week on Friday for the 800 Free of which we have two fearless entrants.
That same weekend the champs will conclude with the sprints at the very same venue.
Here are the
full results for the events that involved our team. Well done to this weekends

Braunstone Novice Event Results
We've just uploaded the results from last Saturdays
Braunstone Novice Gala. We'd like to thank all the children that swam and hope they
enjoyed the event, particuarly all of our debutants! Thanks to the parents that
helped team manage and time keep, your efforts were very much appreciated.
The result isn't important, but for the record we were third
narrowly behind Coalville in 2nd. We would have beat them as well but we had
one of our young hotshots bust the minimum time in their event and wasn't
awarded the points! (and this by literally 2 hundreths of a second!)
The results can be found on the race results page. under
the Novice gala section.

A win in Melton!
After
January's excellent win at home the team won the 2nd of its Leicester
League Galas in Melton Mowbry. The team ran riot and left the home of
the pork pie with a massive 32 first places, 8 second places and seven
3rds and some great performances right down the team. The final round
is at the end of March. Lets hope for a home draw! The results are on
the race results page.
11/2/2010 Centennial Raffle We
are selling raffle tickets to raise funds for our Centennial
Celebrations this year. The draw will be made on the 24th February, but
with time running out we'd like everyone to get involved immediately.
We would like everybody in the club to buy some tickets and even to
sell some too. Please speak to Judy Smith in person to buy tickets and
collect tickets for sale. Centennial Kit Delivery UPDATE
We have managed to reach the large majority of our members already but there are still a good number we have yet to issue to.
Sizes
have been ordered based on the members age, a note was sent out before
Christmas for anyone that wanted a different size to let club know.
Anyhow, we want all those who have not collected their gear to collect
it by Sunday 21st February. After this point those who retrospectively
asked for a size change will be given the opportunity to do so.
The gear will go on General Sale (to parents, ex members etc) on the 1st March.
The
hats are the more traditional Gold colour with 100 Stars to mark the
occasion, the T-shirt is a medium red with gold lettering.
We
hope everybody going to the county championships and any gala this year
representing the club will wear the gear as it is a very special year
for the club, lets face it none of us will see the 200th!
Some of you will have your kit already. We hope to have it out en masse in the next couple of weeks.

2009 Bear Trophy Results Out
21/01/2010 A January message from the Chair As
many of you know the club was selected as finalist for two awards of
the 2009 Leicester Mercury Sports Awards and last night some of us
attended the presentation evening at The Walkers Stadium. Disappointingly we didn’t pick up an award however we certainly made an impression with the great support we received from the swimmers and parents who attended for the presentations and a huge well done and thank you to those people. (Some shown below!) This was our first year in being nominated for an award and to be a finalist was a great achievement and testament to the hard work done by the club. I honestly believe though, we should have won at least one if not both the awards we were up for. Despite the disappointment we all had a great night and I’m sure the others all agree with me that I want to go next year, but more importantly I want see Hinckley Swimming Club go one better and get what it deserves. We have a great team of teachers, coaches and other volunteers and a fantastic membership, if we continue to work together our centenary year will be even more successful and this time next year, Hinckley Swimming Club will be head line news in the Leicester Mercury Sports pages. A home win!
The team clearly had not been overdoing it on Chocolate and Christmas pudding as the victories kept coming in all night. We had masterclass from a a star debutant too! The 9-11 boys cleaned up as did the 15 & U girls which is hugely impressive.
The team showed a great deal of WILL power, determination and great battling spirit right down the team so well done to everybody involved! Bring on round 2!!

Check the swim info page for the NEW REGULATIONS for 2010 in ASA competition.
10/01/2010 Centennial Info Well as you can tell we are celebrating our 100th anniversary this year which is pretty amazing. So the club is going to be issuing in time to swimmers, teachers and committee members with special one off Swim Hats and a T-Shirt. These will also be on general sale eventually, more on that as we know it. The Shirt will be a Scarlet Red Tee with Gold signature and we're aiming to get them in before the county championships. For simplicity we are planning on ordering a size up for every age group from the little ones in the learner pool up to but not including the adult sizes which we'll be able to work out fairly easily. Please note that ages are age as at 31st December 2010 and not childs age now! This is how we are breaking it down: Child Sizes Ages 6-7 (SIZE 7/8) Ages 13-Adult as follows: Age 13 Small (35/37") Ages 14-18Medium (38/40") Other Sizes Available... Large (41/43") The Order has now been placed and the shirts will be with us for the start of February all being well. And
below is something like what we'll be awarding to each member. Not bad
for free is it?!! It comes with stars to represent every year of the
clubs existance, the design is trying to encapsulate the heritage of
the club and where the club is now too.

County Championship Deadline this Sunday
| "Ive been checking the entry times for the 2010 Leicestershire County and age group championships. I qualify in 100 free and back and 50 free, fly, back, breast. In some of these I only just make the qualifying times but I'm going to enter them all anyway. This isn't a self promoting message but a call to arms for all our squad swimmers, If I can do it at 41 years of age then you should all be striving to enter and represent yourselves and Hinckley Hornets. Come on and get your entries in................Big up the Hinckley Hornets" |
That swimmer (Big Andy) is not as different from even our young swimmers, he's been only swimming two years, so he's is learning the sport just like you, so if you qualify, have a go, you'll never know what you can achieve if you don't try!
| County Champs Incentive: To give us a big impact in at the Counties in our Centenary Year, committee have agreed that if we can get 50 Hornets to enter the Counties this year then they will all go in a draw to win their County entry fee back (up to a max of £25.00). So go and get buzzy filling in your applications. And get all your hornet friends to enter too. Chances are, most of you will no longer be swimming by the time it comes to our 2nd centenary!, so best enter this time!!. It's not all about the winning, the taking part can be just as much fun! Although a few top 10 places would be a bonus. |
