I have been with HSC since 1991 having “got involved” because my children were swimming.   I started out as a teacher but found myself drawn to the coaching side of the club.  I have worked with a number of our past coaches Paul Ferrier, Derek Edwards and Nigel Aldridge before finally taking over as Coach in 2000.   We have seen many changes in the past seven years not only at HSC but in the structure of swimming throughout the UK, during this time we have taken on more pool time and had a period of sustained success.   I have been asked if I will ever give up, well Siân is now 11 (my youngest) so unless some other sport takes her fancy I sure she will be around for a few more years!    My oldest has a 15 month old daughter who might just start swimming in a few years!!! So who knows?

I am currently taking all the coaching sessions that’s six times a week, 10 and a half hours in all, what with Saturday evenings at galas and open meets some weekends not bad for a volunteer and that is without all the committees I am on!!

I believe swimmers come to coaching sessions because they want to be competitive swimmers and so I get disappointed when they only come to odd sessions and irregularly.  What makes it worse is I am a soft touch and the swimmers know it.    My challenge to all Hinckley club swimmers is that you could easily compete with the best in the Midlands if only you were committed to training, well maybe one day!!!
